Eye Camp 2022

What has GWS been up to? Read on for a recap of our 7th annual Eye Camp.

We held our 7th annual Eye Camp on March 6, 2022. It was so rewarding to bring this important event back since unfortunately we had to cancel the camp in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Each year hundreds of people look forward to our Eye Camp to get the eye care they desperately need.

Patients came from near and far and our wonderful team of professionals, doctors, and volunteers saw about 600 patients. Many members of the team came from Al-Ahsan Eye Hospital in Lahore, but we also had a great group of volunteers, featuring some that came from as far as the U.S. including my wife Tahira Fahim and son Abdul Jabbar Fahim.

It was a very successful effort that resulted in everyone who attended getting their eyes checked. Some patients received free reading glasses, others received a prescription for glasses along with free frames to get the glasses made at any local optical store. 83 patients were recommended for an eye operation. Gujrat Welfare Society made travel arrangements for transport to Lahore for their surgical procedures.

Among those 83 patients there were several children who underwent surgical procedures but we wanted to highlight a special case among those young patients who had a successful experience and outcome. A teenage girl had come to us looking for care. She had lost one of her eyes in an unfortunate accident, the skilled doctors at Al-Ahsan Eye Hospital were able to give her a prosthetic eye which is going to help with proper facial function of the eye socket as well as her self-esteem. GWS and her family were very happy to see a smile on her face after the procedure.

This was just one of many heartwarming success stories that came from this Eye Camp, all of which resulted in great positive changes in the lives of all the patients we saw. We thank everyone involved and especially God Almighty for making this event a great sucess.
